Look in, Act Out: Namaste as a Spiritual Practice with Gracia Gimse McKinley

Namaste. We say this word in our yoga classes and generally understand it to mean something like, "All that is good in me bows to all that is good in you." In this workshop, we explore the many deep meanings of "Namaste" and its potential for awakening consciousness. Profound growth is possible when we make this word a practice for recognizing our own true nature and the sacred interconnection of all humanity.

Assisting and Hands-On Adjustments: Energy, Breath and Stillness with Faith Hunter

This module will primarily focus on the connecting with your students through personalized hands-on assists. You will also learn to how observe and watch bodies via the understanding of subtle energy, and learn to create your own adjustments by learning the principles of Thai massage. You will actually have time to practice adjustments and refine your personalize method of assisting. Lecture & Asana.

This workshop is geared towards yoga instructors to help them improve their offering.

Intention and Being with Rolf Gates

In this asana-based session we will explore being grounded in our practice and inspired in our lives. We will allow our practice to give voice to the great heart within us.

The session will include Vinyasa, meditation and lecture/discussion. The yoga will be a synergy of the freedom of a powerful Vinyasa class and the structural integrity of yoga's therapeutic alignment principles.

The intensive is intentionally challenging, but open to all who wish to explore yoga as an evolutionary journey. The only 'requirement' is that you show up, do your best and let your best be good enough.

Reversing the Stress Response with Soma Yoga - The Physiology of Freedom with Molly McManus

Note: This workshop is part of the Yoga Therapy Tract

Learn to recognize the effects of the stress response and discover your body’s’ hidden reactions to stress that can cause pain, dysfunction and lake of freedom in our life.  Discover how to release some of the physical habits that lead to the cumulative effects of stress and gain easy practices that can be used daily. 

  • Learn about the body’s reaction to stress and the main stress reflexes/responses. 
  • Understand the concepts of Sensory Motor Amnesia & Sensory Motor Competence and how this new work is the key to sustained freedom and function in the body.
  • Tap into the tools of proprioception, exteroception, and interoception to heal yourself. 
  • Participate in SomaYoga Therapy practices and take home tangible tools to feel better today!
  • Learn to use Yoga North’s unique yoga therapy tool the Therapeutic Spinal Strip

Combination of lecture, discussion and an accessible floor based that will build awareness, better function and more ease in the body and mind.  

Sun Salutations: Foundational Formulation for a Breath Based Vinyasa Practice with David Regelin

The lunging and jumping aspects strengthen the heart and the lungs and therefore teach basic pranayama, functional posture, and dynamic transition (fluidity).

In this workshop we will cover:

-Stepping salutations

Jumping is not suitable for everyone, or for every practice. Learning to step forward and back well is a practice in and of itself, and is the foundation for jumping as well. For example, lifting a hand while stepping forward means lifting both hands while jumping forward, while jumping forward well is similar to stepping forward with both feet at the same time! (Think about it)

-Breath/Bandha/Drishti:

When combined with good form these three things will give you that floaty feeling. Floating is not the same as pressing. Pressing is impressive, in that it is a display of determination and brute strength. Floating is magical in that it taps into grace and one pointed focus. As someone who is prone to the former, I am happy to share what I have learned form those elusive moments of effortless (floaty) practice. 

Flow with Force: Freestyle Vinyasa Workshop with Simon Park

A Vinyasa Flow practice that is a blend of classical and modern styles. Practice dynamic asana as a movement mediation in an open system that guides the student to feel the Yoga practice as an unscripted adventure. There is a focus on the inner workings of the breath on the body and mind; artful and creative transitions that add elegance to the flow of the practice. Alignment is detailed and energetic, yet adaptive for the individual practitioner. The principles of Vinyasa Krama are utilized to create an evolutionary practice that is appropriate for students of all levels.

Blame it on the Upper Traps with Tiffany Denny

For years, we have been rubbing, creaming, and softening our upper trapezius muscles in hopes of remedying the tension that loves to crop up in that area. We have been moving our shoulders away from our ears with dedication, hoping to limit the stubborn overactivity of our upper traps.

I’m here to help stop the cycle of blaming the upper traps for all our woes! This workshop is here to change your relationship to your shoulders and neck in yoga practice, and to shed light on shoulder anatomy and mechanics within the scope of asana to bring more space and expansion to your practice. We will work through the mechanics of some of our most frequently practiced asanas to give you great frame of reference for how to
use your shoulders across the gambit of asanas you might meet along your journey.

Live Everything with Marni Sclaroff

Yoga is the practice of living fully. It points us directly to the center of this moment, which doesn’t always involve the most savory or delightful experiences. So, how can we meet ourselves where we are, meet our lives as they are, and show up to whatever is here, right now? We practice letting
life move through us. We recognize our inner freedom to choose how we want to show up. We develop our resilience, and see every moment as the greatest teacher. This will be an enlivening practice of backbends.

Inspired by Faith's personal yoga practice and her passion for afro beats, bass, rhythms and lyrics of hip-hop, R&B, NeoSoul and World music, this soulfully crafted practice will have you feeling the burn within every inch of who you are...body, mind & SOUL. Designed to inspire, her high-spirited Vinyasa experience will shake your core, ignite your soul, and make you SWEAT. Allow the music to take you high as you tune into you and FLY. There will be a mix of flowing back, inversions, arm balances and other playful transitions.

Yoga Nidra as Yogic Nectar with Indu Arora

Nidra- sleep is a universal solvent. It dissolves it all from pains, aches, to worries, fear and any possible knowledge of self. However, Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice with incredible relevance in the modern world. With an excess of tension and worries, discomforts and uneasiness, students need a vehicle to connect deeply to their true nature, peace, health, and self-awareness. Liquid Flow Yoga with Simon Park

Enjoy a slowly developing, flowing sequence of postures that are fluidly powerful and energetically alive; a movement meditation for mental focus and overall lightness. Create space in the joints and spine, calm the nervous system and balance your energy. The asana flow is similar to the way tai-chi is practiced; slow, methodical and meditative. The practice seamlessly integrates fluid namaskars, deep hip-openers, restorative twisting, back-bending and calming forward bends. Experience an evolution toward blissful relaxation, pranayama and meditation.

The Art of Relaxation with Natalie McGreal

True relaxation calls for certain effort. Join Natalie for a workshop focused on the practice of letting go. Together, we’ll explore different techniques to quiet the mind, and loosen the body in order to prepare for a deeper relaxation. Pranayama, self-care / massage, gentle and restorative asana (postures) will come together to take you away from daily stresses and into a more serene body and mind. 

Have you ever wished you could receive massage and body work daily? Natalie, a long time body worker will share self-care and massage techniques for releasing restricted fascia, soothing tension headaches, and promoting general wellness.
You will walk away from this workshop empowered with new tools to be your own advocate on the path of wellness and relaxation.

SoulStrong Sadhana with Leo Rising

Sadhana is a sacred pact with intention, movement,
and personal well being. Traditionally sadhana, or self-practice can seem very strict and regimented, in this workshop Leo is offering his personal Sadhana, move by move, mantra by mantra, breath by breath in
effort to encourage the wake up call that repetition can offer the consciousness. Sadhana is awareness that everything we do matters to
spirit, and because of that anything we do from LOVE will facilitate
more love in the space. Love of self, love of family, love of life! Get
ready to open your heart, your muscles pumping and honor the bones
capable of housing your SoulStrong Sadhana™. Open Level, encouraged for
beginner level to level 2 and frequent movers who may or may not be 100%
committed yogis. This will be the shift.

Lunar Thai and Fly with Kristi Taylor

A relaxing workshop facilitating release on the physical and energetic level, by using gravity to our advantage in relationship to a partner. The healing touch of Thai Massage applied to therapeutic flying will unravel fear and tension and reveal the natural alignment with ourselves and others. No partner needed.

Basics of Internal Yoga: 5 Inner Senses - Uniting Intention, Activation and Intelligence with Nathan Paulus

This class will build on some of the ideas from the Understanding and Working from the Midline workshop - though that is certainly not a pre-requisite for this workshop. We will look at how conscious intention of the mind affects movement, while simultaneously having the potential to increase body intelligence and self-understanding. We will work to refine and understand the difference between outer 5 senses and inner 5 senses inside of a yoga practice. There will be a longer meditation to close the class.
